10 Things I Would Do If I Didn't Have to Work...

Yesterday, Angie over at My So Called Chaos blogged about this topic and I think for a Friday, I would follow - here is my list of 10 Things I Would Do If I Didn't Have to Work:

1. Stay at home with my kids
That would definitely be my number 1 but in reality, I can't do that...I could, but we like to have extra money to spend on us!!

2. Cook more
I would love to experiment with different types of food - explore different cultures and hosting dinner parties with different courses.

3. Travel
If I wasn't working, I would love to travel...where would we go?  Oh wait, Hubby would have to work so how fun would travelling solo or with kids alone be?

4. Take more pictures
I just find with working, I have no time to take pictures (and edit them).  I am no photographer by all means, but if you look at all the baby pics of Maddy and how much I got developed, you would know that was because I was off a year.

5. Spend time with family and friends
I would love to travel (not too far) to visit long lost family members.

Cousins from Toronto area that I haven't seen in YEARS...

6. Go back to School
I would love to take a Massage Therapy course!!

7. Be more crafty
Ok, I guess I would have to actually get my craft-on.  I like to think of things I want to make and stuff, but I guess I just don't find time to actually do it right now.  If I didn't work, I would have LOTS of time.

Gifts in  a Jar - what I am currently working on for Christmas
 8. Volunteer
I would love to volunteer at the local elementary school.  Doing what?  I don't know, anything really.  Helping kids in classrooms, watching them at lunch, organizing activities during lunch hour - the possibilities are endless...

9. Relax
Just take deep breaths and relax - aaahhhh that sounds nice (come on lucky lottery!!!)

10. Walk more
I find by the time I get home from work, it's the same routine: supper - bath - bed.  No time to get a nice walk in there.  I love to get out but I find it hard - especially now when it's dark at like 6:30.

What would you do if you didn't have to work??

Bullying

How bad can an 11 year old's life be?  How about an 11 year old disabled boy who had muscular dystrophy, who lost his mom to cancer 3 years ago and has been bullied and beat up because of his condition?  His life was soooo bad that he committed suicide.  How sad is that?

In Toronto, Mitchell Wilson took his own life at the young age of 11 because he was being bullied by older kids.  He was attacked because they wanted his Iphone - they smashed his face into the pavement, so hard, that it busted teeth.  After this incident, things just started to go downhill...Mitchell became very depressed and experiencing severe panic attacks.  His dad and step mother seeked helped, but Mitchell wouldn't open up.  His dad went into his room, September 6th to wake him up for his first day of Grade 6 and found him dead with a plastic bag tied around his head.

On Labour Day, hours before Mitchell killed himself, he was served with a subpoena to testify against his alleged assailant on Sept. 28. Mitchell was terrified of having to face the other boy in court, his father says.

Now the charges may be dropped because Mitchell can no longer testify. Wilson and his wife say they have been told by the Crown’s office it is unlikely the case will go ahead without Mitchell.

Mitchell Wilson's father is now going into schools and lecturing to students about the dangers of bulliness.  He says "ultimately, everybody has to be nicer to everyone".

We always hear of bullying in school and I'm sure there are different methods of correcting this, but let's face it, bullying is something that is always going to be around us.  There will always be a jock, a nerd or a big person to tease.

It's sooo sad to see this around us and it actually scares me having a daughter starting school soon.  I just hope that we guide her the right way...I want Maddy to like everyone, I want Maddy to excel in school - I don't want her part of "cliques" - I want her to be who she wants to be but at the same time, guiding her the right way!

You can read about Mitchell Wilson's story here.

WWTK - Yummy Food

Welcome to We Want to Know Q&A Wednesday
Hosted by Mamarazzi and Alicia aka Queso

This week's questions are all about food - here are my answers:

{1} What is one thing (food or drink) that you MUST have everyday?
Pepsi - yes and even though I am pregnant, I must have at least one a day or I get nasty (haha somewhat kidding - but I do get a nasty headache)

{2} What is your "go to" food when you don't feel well/need comfort?
When I am sick, I really just want a big bowl of hot, steamy soup.  I don't care if it's homemade or Lipton from a box.  Nothing soothes ya like Chicken Noodle Soup.

{3} Is there a dish that you make that people request when they visit your home/a family favorite?
Around here it's spaghetti - and no one really requests it, but if Hubby's family is coming over, that is the one thing that is mentioned - I don't think it's cuz I make the BEST spaghetti sauce, I think it's just cuz it's the easiest.

{4} What are 3 foods you have TRIED, do not like and will NEVER eat again?
Tried sushi and will never do that again - blech!  I even tried to make my own creation at the Sushi bar place - I thought, how bad could rice and cucumber be?  Well they still stuck that seaweed in it - gag me!
Mushrooms - I hate mushrooms.  If they are hidden in something and I miss taking it out, I almost gag and I think it's just the texture of it.
Banana bread - I know - most people love it, but I HATE it.

and our final question comes from Dee@ HomesickCajun
{5} What's one thing that you love to eat that most people would think is weird and/or gross??
In my "younger days" when I worked at a chip wagon, I started to eat french fries with raw onions and gravy.  YUM!  Another one that I love and people turn their noses up is macaroni and tomato juice with mustard.

Doctor's Appointment - Week 19

Last night I had a doctor's appointment...seems forever since I had one...but never the less - at 8:30 pm last night, I met with him to do the whole 5 minute routine - check blood pressure, weight and baby's heart beat!

I am approximately 19 weeks - here is some information from the Internet regarding my pregnancy thus far:

Your Baby: This week your baby starts bulking up and packing on the grossly named "brown fat" he'll need to keep warm when he gets evicted from his comfortable uterine home. Other highlights this week:

Vernix, a milky white coating that protects your baby's skin, appears all over your baby's body to keep his skin from getting pickled in the amniotic fluid. Think of it as if your baby has been dipped in yogurt, like those delicious but fake-healthy yogurt-covered raisins and pretzels. Ooh, we feel another craving comin' on. ... Under the vernix, a fuzzy layer of hair called lanugo now covers baby's body. Don't worry, your Mini won't look like Cousin It when he's born. Most of the fuzz will fall off before baby makes his grand entrance.

Good news: Your baby's kidneys are fully functioning and producing urine this week. Bad news: That means there will be lots of diapers in your future. But so far you're safe—at the moment the pee just passes into the amniotic fluid.

He or she now weighs about 8½ ounces and measures 6 inches, as long as a turkey sub from Subway on warm, delicious Italian Herbs and Cheese bread (or Honey Oat bread, or Oregano bread or ...)

How am I feeling?  Tired, exhausted and sick some of the time.  The sickness is at night and/or when I get hungry.  I am glad that I am not sick EVERY DAY, but I hate how it sneaks up on me and I am sometimes not even prepared for it.

How much weight have I gained?  Since last appointment, a month ago, I have gained 13 lbs.

Baby's heartbeat:  144 bpm - Hubby wanted me to ask my doctor what he thought it was going to be by the heartbeat.  We have heard different stories. Somewhere in cyber space I read that if it's around 140 it's a girl and if it's under 140, it's a boy.  Some people have said that if it's over 140, it's a boy.  When I asked him last night, he laughed and said that it's good to have a variable heart beat and that if the baby is less active at that point of the day, it could be as low as 120 or if it's hyper, it could be as high as 160 - he says it has NOTHING to do with the sex of the baby!

Sex of Baby: Unknown - first ultrasound was too early and legs were crossed.  Paperwork was sent to the hospital last night and he says that he wants it done within a week, so that is exciting.  The baby better cooperate.  My friend Josee went last week and she hate brownies and had lots of orange juice before her appointment so they would see (they are having a boy!) but the downfall to that was - baby was sooooo hyper, it wouldn't stay still to get the measurements, so she's off for another ultrasound tomorrow.  We got good measurements a few weeks ago (the technician was surprised she was able to get everything at 16 weeks) so maybe I will fill up on OJ and brownies as well because unless something is wrong, this will likely be my last ultrasound!

Weekend Recap

Happy Monday...

This weekend we had lots of plans and therefore, my house is a mess and I hate it.  I don't care about the cleanliness of it, I just hate walking in and having things all over the place...I like it tidy...anyhoo...

Friday night I went to Jill's place where she was having a Lia Sophia party.  It is jewelery party and after great debate (I don't wear jewelery) I purchased three pairs of birth stone earrings.  First pair for me, then I decided they were small enough so I ordered a second pair for Maddy and then it was cheaper to get a THIRD pair (I paid full price for one pair and the other two were basically two for the price of one)...so I got the third pair for my mom.

Saturday morning I ran to the city to go to Michaels to pick up some supplies for my Christmas craft and to pick up my styrofoam wreath for crafts, but ended up forgetting it....then ran and did some groceries.  Got home, unpacked groceries, grabbed a quick bite to eat, got Maddy dressed and headed over to a friends baby shower.  She is having a girl so everything was all cute and pink and she is expecting this bundle of joy in November.  Saturday evening, I was anticipating a quiet movie night, but Hubby arranged to go play cards with my grandmother, so off to her house we went.  After a late night of cards, we crashed close to midnight!

Sunday morning we slept in a bit (would have liked to have slept longer, but we needed to get our butts in gear) - we all ate breakfast, got dressed and headed off to the hockey arena.  Hubby has started hockey for the season.  He did not have to play yesterday morning but he had to referree the game when they couldn't find someone...so Maddy and I went to watch.  Right after the game, we headed up the line to celebrate my neice, Brooke's, 7th birthday.  The best part of the birthday...her expression when opening gifts.  I was quite surprised to see only two actual presents, I thought kids birthdays always had gifts but now, apparently, most kids just give money - and the going rate is $10 and she couldn't have been happier.  She (and her friends) would SQUEAL over every 10 dollar bill she found in the cards.  They were OVER THE MOON when they opened our card.  We always just get the neices a $50 gift card to Walmart so they can pick out their own gift.  Since they were little, these are known as "credit cards".  When Brooke opened our card and the "credit card" popped out - she squealed to her mom that she got a credit card.  Her friends were sooo amazed and then one little girl takes it, looks at the back and says "$50 dollars - whoa!!"...it was priceless.  We asked her for change back seeing how we realized the going rate was $10 (and she was ecstatic about it) so we wanted $40 back.  Didn't work but at least we tried.
When we finally got home around 6, I put in a couple loads of laundry, TRIED to tidy up, Hubby cut the grass and then we sat down to watch the season premiere of Amazing Race.
It was a good weekend - hope you all had a great first FALL weekend too~

Maddy Moment

Last week, Maddy's daycare went on a field trip to do some apple picking.  They had each decorated a brown paper bag with handles and were off for the day.  Of course, when I picked her up she immediately started asking me to make an apple pie...then it was apple crisk (translation: apple crisp)...but we never got to make anything because those apples were just soooo tasty, we just ate them all.  Now, one lonely apple sits on the counter.

Wednesday night, she told me that she needed to make 7 apple cookies for her daycare.  Hmmm...I wonder what apple cookies are?  I asked her and this is how our conversation went:

Me: "What exactly are apple cookies hun?"
Maddy: "They are sooo yummy...I'll tell you the recipe...and see if we have all the ingredients."
Me: "OKAY...what do we need?"
***I knew this was going to be interesting***
Maddy: "Well...we need flour....sugar....chocolate chips...carrot juice...some carrots...and some apples!"
Me: chuckling "Is that all?"
Maddy: "Yea...do we have chocolate chips?"
Me: "I don't think so, but I don't think chocolate chips would be good..."
Maddy: "Yes, and well we need to buy two chocolate chips then...one for us and one for Sophie (daycare provider)"
Me: "Okay"

I recommend you DO NOT use this recipe...sounds pretty...inventive thats for sure!  I thought it was cute that she started out with the flour and sugar, I really thought she was going to give me a real recipe.

#78 of 101 List - CHECKED OFF

This is one of the biggest achievements on my 101 list and I can check it off as DONE: #78 - Sleep in my own bed and make Maddy sleep alone!

It has been a week and everything is going smoothly!  Phew!  It all started with the Sears Wishbook...Maddy was flipping through it and saw a room all decorated with a small bed and canopy and she pointed to it and said she wanted a room like that!  We would give her ANYTHING she wanted if it meant her sleeping alone in her bed.  The big thing was...we needed to get rid of her queen sized bed so there would be NO WAY that I could lay in bed with her.

We went to my BIL and SIL's house and "bought" their twin sleigh bed that was in the spare room - of course, we got it for a GREAT deal and it came with accessories: the comforter set, a mattress pad, two sets of sheets, a pillow and some decorative pillows...I love the "Butter and Tracy deals" - half our house is furnished from them...what is next on the list??

Anyways, you can read more about this here.

She has been doing relatively good.  Some nights she wanders in, but we put her back (sometimes with a fight but within 5 mins, she's out again)...some nights she sleeps right through till morning and it seems like on weekends, when her body alarm clock is ready to get up, she comes quietly into our room and snuggles in the middle - and I don't care - let's me sleep in a BIT longer.

She is being a very big and brave girl and we are very happy with her progress.  She doesn't even give us a hard time when it's time to "quiet down" and get ready.  Our routine is the same - after the bathroom duties, she crawls into bed - I have to kiss her ladybug pillow and her three teddies: Rio, Blue and Sandra - and then give her the kisses and hugs...turn on the ladybug nightlight, turn on the TV (for the blue screen which only stays on for 10 mins max), turn on her humidifier and fan and out I go.

As part of our agreement with her, if she went the first week in her own bed - she would be rewarded.  Seeing how her father LOST her DS by being irresponsible (leaving it on the hood of a truck and driving away) - we bought her a new used one and she LOVES it.

Do I like this arrangement?  Not so much - since I have been back in my own bed, I do not sleep well.  I can't seem to get comfortable in that bed.  Hubby keeps the air conditioner on (yes STILL) and a fan and I freeze, I am a stomach sleeper and can't sleep like that these days...so I am grouchy when it comes to bedtime but at least Maddy is in her own bed.  Woo hoo!

Lesson learned: I will NOT sleep with the new baby!  Bad habit!!

We Want to Know Wednesday - TV Edition

It's Wednesday...and you know what that means...it's WWTK hosted by Mamarazzi and Alicia aka Queso.

This week's questions and my answers:

{1} What is your MUST SEE show?
I am not much of a TV person but I am glad that some shows are starting up again....right now, this season, my must see show would have to be Survivor: South Pacific.  Been watching Survivor forever now and I always host a Survivor Pool so it makes it even funner to watch.  If you watch, I have Elyse this season!

{2} What shows are you most excited to watch this season?
I started watching this season's 90210 but nothing is really exciting me yet...I can't wait to watch the final season of One Tree Hill, but unfortunately, it only starts in Spring 2011.

{3} How many hours a week do you actually watch TV?
I only watch 90210 for an hour Tuesday nights, and Survivor for an hour on Wednesday nights.  Other than that, I will sit and watch shows that Hubby watches or I will have it on the Food Network...

{4} Do you think TV has gotten too "racy" (vulgar, pushing the limit, etc) ?
Depending on the show - sure!  I am sure all those Housewives shows and Jersey Shore shows aren't the best (can't really judge cuz I do not watch them).

{5} How many TVs do you have in your house?
We have 2 TV's hooked up to the dish.  The downstairs one has HD programming and the PVR - the one in our room is regular dish and Maddy has one in her room but it's only for watching movies - no dish hooked up.

Join in the fun and link up with Mamarazzi.

Thankful Tuesday

Today is Tuesday and I am going to write about some "Thankfuls" going on around my life:

I am thankful...that my sister in law's surgery went well yesterday and she is recovering.  The healing process is going to be long but the worse is over.  She was diagnosed with Uterine cancer but the surgery took care of everything and she should be good to go once she is healed.

I am thankful...that my grandfather has come through another hurdle battling throat cancer.  Last week he had surgery to remove his voice box so that he can eat again.  He has been "eating" prescription shakes from an IV for the last...oh I don't know really...a long time so hopefully once he is healed and back up and running, that he will enjoy a nice roast beef dinner.  He was given the choice to eat or talk again and he chose eat because he has said what he has needed to say in his life...so from now on, my papa will be writing to us!

I am thankful...that our little buddy Tyler made it to Toronto safe and sound yesterday with his family.  That is going to be his new "home" for the next 3 months or so while he undergoes a bone marrow transplant for a rare case of leukemia he has.  We hope for a speedy recovery and that he will be home on time for Christmas...FIGHT TYLER FIGHT (maybe with SOME luck, the guys will actually get a deer this hunting season so they can send a picture to show Ty seeing how he will miss the hunt this year).

I am thankful...that all those puppies have been saved!  In case you haven't heard it on the news: here is one of the many stories regarding this horrible situation.  We live close to this place, I went to school with this family and it doesn't surprise me...I am glad that they were caught and it's over!

I am thankful...for everyone and everything around me!!

Weekend Fun!

This weekend went by way too fast...and I was sick for the whole thing.  Not sure what I am battling, but it sucks having a headache for 5 days straight.  I am pretty sure it's allergies but we'll see how it fairs out.  Never the less, I went on with my weekend and had a great one!

Saturday morning we were up with the birds and getting all dressed up.  I don't remember the last time I dressed up - make up, hair done - I felt pretty (sorry, no pics)...anyways, we were getting dressed up for a cousins wedding at Camp Fortune.  It was a morning wedding and we didn't know what to expect but let me tell you, it was a great wedding - I would so do it that way!
The "lodge" was nicely decorated in blues and peaches.  There was a photo op wall that you went and got to choose different hats, beads etc...and take photos.  There was a scrapbook table that was like the guest book that they would make their wedding scrapbook.  There was a juice bar and snacks while the couple went and got pictures taken.  There was an amazing brunch buffet with an omelete bar.  There were speeches, a game of hot potato (to see who got to keep the centerpieces) and a candy bar.  Overall, it was a gorgeous wedding.  The weather was perfect - the venue was perfect - it was a perfect day for Amber and Rob.  The best part, we were home by 4:00 pm.  Here are some pics from the day (please note that Maddy was the photographer so pics may not be that good):

The Candy Bar

The Maid of Honor, Brandi and Cadence the Flower Girl (daughter of Amber and Rob)

Here comes the Bride!

Handsome Conlan - the ring bearer

Sunday, another morning party - to celebrate Miss Charlotte's very special FIRST birthday.  Friends and family gathered for spaghetti, cake and presents.  Charlotte was adorable opening her gifts.  She wouldn't stop looking at the cards - she LOVED them.  I would say she did well!  Here are some pics from Sunday:

I Want Summer Back

Last night was one of those nights - those nights that you feel the air getting colder by the minute.  We went to my parents for supper and when we came out, it just felt soooo cold.  All I wanted to do was rush home, hop in a nice hot bath and get into some warm flannel jammies!  And that is what I did!

I  battled a very bad headache last night though, still have it this morning, and thinking how I would just love to stay in bed all day and sleep it off...but off to work I go!  Ugh!

I am pretty sure it's just allergies and nothing else - my headache is a sinus one I think and I just feel like a pile of crap!  Seriously!

Last night the temperatures were suppose to really dip - with a frost warning.  This morning waking up, it's only 5 degrees - brrr!  I wish I could stay in my warm flannel's all day and cuddle in my bed.  Happy Friday and I hope it FLIES by!

We Want to Know Wednesday

Welcome to We Want to Know Q&A Wednesday
Hosted by Mamarazzi and Alicia aka Queso

This week's questions are about road trips - may be difficult - but here are my answers:

{1} What are 3 must haves for a long road trip?
Good music, snacks and a GPS!

{2} What was the destination of your most recent road trip?
I don't remember the last time I was on a road trip - planned or unplanned.  Honestly, I think the last road trip we took was to Arnprior for the dreaded Blood Donor Clinic

{3} What do you miss most about home when on a trip?
Maddy!!! We went to Fiddler Lake a few years back and Maddy stayed back at my parents...I didn't thoroughly enjoy myself because it was my first time leaving her for the WHOLE weekend but I would do it again!

{4} What is the furthest you have traveled on a road trip?
We went to Niagara Falls the year Maddy was born - she was 6 months old and we drove there with family.  I remember going to go New York state as a kid to some amusement park but don't remember the drive there but I am sure it was just as far!

{5} Will you "stop for the largest ball of twine, etc" or are you a "hurry and get there" road tripper?
I like to just drive and get to the destination, however, I don't mind stopping at little touristy towns that come our way (and of course rest room stops)

2 on Tuesday

This is my first time linking up with My Chihuahua Bites and she has a fun linky party happening Tuesdays called 2 on Tuesday...

This week's question is:

If you were stranded on a deserted island, what two items would you wish to have with you? (I know you’ll have more than two. I would have one million. It’s ok if you share more than two.)

Well everyone's answers I have been reading, are not putting down just two things.

I would bring a tooth brush for sure

A good book - I am re-reading Something Blue right now!

My family of course - well Hubby and Maddy (although, I am thinking I would probably enjoy some ME time alone! LOL)

Maddy's New Room

As I am writing this - it's Sunday night - Night #2 of Maddy sleeping ALONE in her OWN bed in her OWN room.

Friday night she had a sleepover at Mama's house, so Hubby and I set up her new bed and got her room ready.  When she came home Saturday, she was so excited to see it that we thought there would NO PROBLEM when it would come to night time.

Saturday night she was watching a movie and after it was over, I explained to her that it was time for bed...she went over to her TV, shut it off (me thinking...YES she's REALLY going to do this)...then just stood there...she looked like a lost puppy.  Her eyes were starting to tear up and her lip quivered...finally when she couldn't hold it any longer, the flood gates opened and she just started bawling, screaming "I JUST CAN'T DO IT MOM"!  This, of course, broke my heart, but we had to be strong.  It took a while to calm her down (with the help of Hubby) and finally almost an hour later, she was asleep!

Tonight was much easier - much easier meaning - no tears and no screaming.  I crawled into her bed, read her a story and then we did the routine.  Turned on her cool night light, had the other one set up (cuz the cool Ladybug night light turns off after 45 mins), tucked her all in, kissed her stuffed animals and out I went.  It was silence, but we'll see how long it takes her to fall asleep.

The thing I miss the most...sleeping with her.  I can't get used to sleeping back in my own bed with Hubby...it's actually uncomfortable to me, which is odd because most nights, Maddy was sprawled out ON TOP of me...but I miss having my little girl close to me!  Last night I laid awake for the longest time - worried I guess because she was so upset falling asleep...but tonight was better and I'm hoping I have a better night's sleep too!

Monday Morning Update:  Maddy had a few moments where she got out of bed to "pee" again but other than that, she was very good - only turned the TV (for the blue screen) on ONCE and fell asleep within 40 mins!  Woke up this morning very proud of her!!

Check Out a Fellow Blogger

I just ordered some things from a friend (Jen over at Cassabella Creations) who is a stay at home Mom of 4 kiddies who STILL manages to find time to be all crafty and create VERY cute girlie items (and slowly, some boy things are being added) - when I was checking out her Facebook Page, I realized that she blogged a while back about getting 100 followers and then she would be hosting a GREAT GIVEAWAY!  I thought I would help her out right now - go check out her blog - Our Small Town Life and become a follower so she can get this giveaway underway.

Her new "boy item" - a tool belt!
I won one of Lena's giveaways one time and the prize was credit used towards Cassabella Creations and a bottlecap necklace.  I was ecstatic because I had finally won something and I had just placed an order, so really my order was FREE!

I just bought this cute Tutu outfit for Maddy to wear to upcoming Halloween and Thanksgiving festivities.  Too cute for words.  She will wear this with her cute white crochet hat with a brown flower to complete the look.  Can't wait for her to wear it!

To see more of her stuff - check out a blog entry written by Lena who had her daughter model some of Jen's stuff: Cassabella Creations Shout Out - you can also check out her website!

Random Thoughts on Thursday

I am feeling pretty Random today...

I wish I could stop peeing - seriously, getting up 10 times to go to the washroom in half an hour is C.R.A.Z.Y

Trying to decide if I want to take Maddy to see Barney Live at the Baby Boom Show - shouldn't be a hard decision - it's FREE!

I can't wait to pick up Maddy's new bed tonight - she is actually EXCITED to get a smaller bed...the only catch, she wants a new night light!

I feel like I took 4 million steps back in this pregnancy, when I went for my ultrasound on Tuesday, I went in there thinking we were ALMOST 20 weeks...correction, we are only 16.

I really hope Baby uncrosses it's legs within the next 3 - 4 weeks.

The technician told me that I may not feel the baby move because my placenta is in the front acting as a cushion - will this be like that the whole pregnancy and I won't feel anything at all??

I still need to take my ring in to get resized - I think we're finally going tomorrow!

I am excited about a family wedding next weekend - it's at 11:00 in the morning at a Ski Resort followed by a brunch reception - looking forward to it because it's not your traditional wedding - I have never been to a morning wedding - sorta exciting!
What are you thinking about today???
